This is a HEUER Chronograph Pocket Watch 1/5 Second Recorder with 2 Registers, one up & one down. The VALJOUX 61 movement is signed with the famous HEUER shield logo and ED HEUER & CO. SWISS. Heuer Item # 10. Ebay item # 352. “TAG-Heuer”, “Ed Heuer & Co” and “Heuer”.DESCRIPTION: DIAL: The dial is signed with the famous HEUER shield logo in black. Also it is signed MADE IN SWITZERLAND at the bottom edge of the dial. The bottom register has the continuous second. The upper register is the 30 minute counter. All the hands are beautiful bright gun metal blue. The dial is beautiful pearled silver white in mint condition. The black hour markers are numerals at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. This is a 1/5 of a second recorder with a 30 minute register at the 12 o’clock position. Chronograph hands are controlled by a 3 function push button in the crown. The outer dial ring is marked in 1/5 seconds, seconds and numerals at the 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60 second markers. The dial is 42mm across. HANDS: All the hands (hour, minute, second counter and register) are bright gun metal blue. They are in perfect condition with no flaking or chipping. CRYSTAL: The crystal is in excellent condition without any breaks or cracks. No visible scratches. CASE: The case is an open face with one hinged cover back. The exterior case appears to have a bright nickel chrome finish. The back of the case exterior has scratches (see pictures). The interior of the exterior cover has a mirrow finish and is signed with the famous HEUER shield logo. It is also signed “ED HEUER & CO. SWISS”. Also the serial number “147156” is below the Heuer signature. Has an interior movement cover that is jeweled on the interior. The diameter of the case is 1.75 inches (1 3/4″). CROWN & BOW: The crown and bow are both bright finished (nickel / chrome). Pull the crown up to set the hour and minute hands. The one button on the crown operates the timer function. First push and the second hand starts. The second push and the second stops. Third push and the hands reset to start. I have wound the crown fully and it keeps perfect time for 48 hours. MOVEMENT: This is a VALJOUX 61. The movement is signed on the bridge “ED. HEUER & Co SWITZERLAND”, has the famous “HEUER” shield logo, and the serial number “602629”. The movement is also signed “SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS UNADJUSTED”. The movement is beautiful, shiny and functions perfectly, keeping accurate time to the second. This is an early movement because of the ED. HEUER & Co SWITZERLAND signature on the bridge. This movement is pre-1964. Based on the movement’s signature my educated estimate it early 1950’s. HISTORY: In 1860 Edouard Heuer founded a watchmaking studio in Saint-Imier. In 1864 Edouard Heuer transfers his firm to “EDOUARD HEUER & Co.” and in 1865 moves to Bienne, Switzerland. In 1912 the HEUER shield logo appears for the first time. In 1945 the name of HEUER appears on all the movements, dials and cases. In 1964 Heuer and Leonidas merge to form HEUER-LEONIDAS, S.A. In 1982 LA NOUVELLE LEMANIA acquired controlling interest in HEUER-LEONIDAS, S.A. In 1985 LA NOUVELLE LEMANIA sold HEUER-LEONIDAS, S.A. to the TAG Group and formed TAG-Heuer. NOTE OF INTEREST: In July of 2017, I sold to the TAG-Heuer Museum “Heuer VALJOUX 61 MOVEMENT Chronograph Pocket Watch 1/5 Second Recorder w/ 2 Registers” that is identical to this one. The Movement Serial Number on the Heuer that I sold to the TAG-Heuer Museum was 601129. I owned three of these Heuer’s. Sold one to the TAG-Heuer Museum and still have two (2) in my collection. Serial Number 602629 is one that I now have listed on eBay. Not to brag but I am recognized as an expert on early Heuer watches and chronographs. I still have many in my collection.
