I need to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. THIS IS MY LAST ONE! I have seen a rise in popularity of Super Distorted (or Egg) kits in the market. I have to confess that at first, it rubbed me the wrong way because I have always seen scale modeling as a way to honor the history of our military, technology and popular culture. Turning them into caricatures seemed disrespectful and blurred the line between models and toys. I soon realized that not everyone shares my feeling of reverence for accuracy, which is perfectly fine. If the distorted kits bring these subjects into the lives of more people, then it is a big win, in my opinion. It is just another way to bring history to life for the next generation, as long as they understand that the sacrifices and experiences associated with these tanks and ships were very real. Fujimi has produced an extensive series of Chibi-Maru warships (Battleships, Aircraft Carriers, Cruisers, Destroyers, Submarines, etc.). You could almost recreate the entire IJN in your bathtub. They also produced egg versions of tanks, Formula 1 cars and more. I found a handful of listings for this kit on eBay (all from Japan), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have it in stock and can reliably ship this item very quickly. Here is what I have found about this nifty little kit: The fujimimokei.com website has a listing for this Kongo kit showing the adorable box art and the following blurb about the kit: The battleship [Kongo] appeared in a round and cute figure! With a total length of about 11 cm, it is a size that can be played floating in water. Compared to the conventional ship model, the number of parts is also small and can be easily assembled, so it can be enjoyed from adults to children. · No adhesive is required with the snap-on kit.· Paint is unnecessary by color-by-color molding.· Wooden deck etc. can be colored by pasting a seal, it looks good without painting, and there is also a sense of precision.· Full Hull or Waterline Hull display. If you do not install the lower part of the hull, you can enjoy it as an offshore model. Scalemates.com has a listing for this kit that shows that it is a brand new tooling from 2013 that has been released almost 20 times since then. They show the box art and there are links to a review, aftermarket parts and references for the Kongo class battleships. Scott Van Aken delivered a fantastic First Look Review on the modelingmadness.com site. He gives an interesting history of the IJN Kongo, having the distinction of being the only Japanese battleship sunk by a submarine in WWII and the last battleship ever sunk by a submarine. He gives us a shot of the part trees and the colorful foil sticker sheet and describes the highlights of this fun kit. His Conclusion was: “I think this is a pretty neat kit. Modelers who want to add a touch of whimsy to their building and have something to construct that is relaxing and a nice change from the norm will find this one worth seeking.” There are plenty of reviews of similar subjects within the Egg genre. Some samples should shed light on the quality of this kit. The best place to get a good look at the parts of an egg kit could be on the German-language modellboard.net site. Count Spee posted an enthusiastic In-Box Review of the Yamato (FUJ #421605) that showed dozens of high-resolution photos of the finely detailed parts, stickers, instructions and packaging. He said he liked the kit very much and added: “you definitely have a real eye-catcher for your home showcase. And also in a very good quality.” Harry Houdini Models published a lengthy (>20 minutes) Build Review on YouTube of the Yamato Battleship kit (FUJ #421605). He built his as a showpiece with painting and weathering but shows how simple the assembly can be. He was impressed with the quality and engineering, which was much higher than he expected from a “toy”. His results were anything but toylike! Jerry Broz did an In Box Review of the four car Grand Prix Q Series on the Model Auto Review Online (maronline.org.uk) site. He shows the box art of each kit but focused on the McLaren MP 4/4, showing the parts laid out along with the instruction set. There is not much text, but it starts with: “They are funky “super-deformed” Grand Prix Q-Series Formula One, non-motorized static display kits of approximately 1:20 scale.” This snap-fit kit is in a nicely decorated box about 9.5” x 6” x 2.5”. As you can see from the pictures, the box is in great shape. It is still sealed with the original shrink wrap, so it is factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains one complete model kit with grey and red plastic parts and a set of foil stickers for the wood deck, flags, searchlights, funnel grates and more. It does not require paint or glue (snap together assembly!) to complete as shown. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally.
